REGISTRATION CLOSES IN:

There's usually a reason you haven't started yet.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You've read up on encaustic and watched some videos, and you still haven't put wax on a panel.

  • The tools and setup look overwhelming and you don't know what you actually need.

  • You've got a corner of a room, not a studio, and you don't think that's enough.

  • You keep waiting for a warm enough day to open the windows, because you're not sure it's safe otherwise.

  • You don't want to spend money on a bunch of tools before you know whether you'll even stick with it.

  • You're nervous about the heat gun, the hot plate, and getting the temperature wrong.

  • The supplies are already in the corner, still in the box, because you keep waiting to feel ready.

If you're nodding at even one of these, you're exactly who I built these three days for.

Here's what you'll be able to do by Thursday.

Day 1

Set up your space and prep your panel

TUESDAY, SEPT 29

  • Set up safely, at any budget

  • Sort out what supplies you actually need and what can wait

  • Settle the gesso question and prep your panel for wax

Day 1

Get your first
layers down

WEDNESDAY, SEPT 30

  • Warm the panel and brush on your first layers of wax

  • Get comfortable loading and dragging your brush, and turning your panel for an even coat

  • Fuse it all down so it bonds to the wood and gives your panel integrity

Day 1

Add marks
and colour

THURSDAY, OCT 1

  • Make your first marks with two simple tools

  • Rub colour into them with a pigment stick

  • Wipe back the excess and finish your panel

Walk away with a finished panel in your hands,
and the confidence to know how it got there.

Come with questions. Leave knowing what to do next.

Every afternoon there's a live Q&A. Send your question in and I'll answer it that day, before you sit down with your wax.

Ask me anything. There's no such thing as a question that's too basic here.

Do I really need the gesso? Is my hot plate hot enough? Can I even do this in a spare room?

Those are the ones that come up all the time.

You'll also get into a pop-up Facebook group for the three days. Post what you're making, see what everyone else is up to, and I'll be popping in and out to answer things as I go.

Live Q&A each afternoon at 4pm ET

Hi, I'm Jane.

I've been working with encaustic for six years, and I've taught thousands of artists how to get their first layers of wax down.

Here's something I want you to know before we start.

For years my whole setup was an open window in a spare bedroom and a fan I paid fifteen dollars for. That was it. That's what I made my work with, and it was safe, and it was enough.

I've added to it since. You'll see that on day one, and you'll also see the fifteen dollar version, so you can pick the one that fits your space right now.

My art space is still that same small bedroom, by the way.

You don't need a separate studio to do this. You just need a safe spot, a few basics, and someone to show you where to start.

That's what these three days are for.

xo Jane
