Last week I posted a reel using a supply I foiled with gold. I had lots of questions about it, so today I'm sharing all the details with you and how you can use it in your artwork.
I'm still experimenting with this particular material so understand I'm in the 'testing' stages.
As you know, I use a lot of gold in my work and sometimes REAL metal. Last year I had an entire course based on it, called Fused Harmony.
That said, not everyone wants to use real metal or has the budget for it.
One of the modules I'm most excited for in my new online course,Layer By Layer, (launching September 25th) is the creation of unique 'faux metal' collage paper textures.
Obviously creating this way is a lot cheaper, and lighter. I created and shared this faux metal paper texture yesterday on social media.
Anyway, let me take you back to last week and the the material I was ironing down (in this Instagram reel)
REXLACE, is used in jewelry making. You can purchase it in a variety of colours. I have several - blue, white and clear. The clear (looks purple but isn't) is a bit softer compared to the other colours.
As you can imagine, my wheels have been turning with all the ways you can use it to make marks and texture in your collage elements.
Aside from foil, it can be painted, sprayed, cut, glued, masked and more. The creative possibilities are endless.
You can layer over colour or keep it simple. I'm going to be cutting these up and using them in my collage work at some point.
You can also use it in other ways to separate design areas in your work.
Here are two examples of different style art with REAL metal and resin that you could potentially replace with REXLACE.
Anyway, you get the ideas here and hopefully I've sparked some curiosity in trying this product, or one similar.
Play, experiment and have fun. All this stuff can lead to great things.
And if you're ready to make great things with your mixed media, Layer By Layer is going to be here before you know it.
We'll be transforming our art together to make stunning modern collage.
Feel free to join the Layer By Layer Waitlist so you don't miss out on all the upcoming details. When you do, you'll receive a Mark and Texture Tool Guide and some course FAQ's :)
